Даже само понятие "драш" - как извлечение новых смыслов из Торы - появилось где-то, приблизительно в эпоху Гилеля- р. Иоханана бен Закая.

You guys spent a lot of ink interpreting what I wrote. Observe that I am no sage trying to rule for all ages, I did not live thousands of years ago, and I did not write in a language no one has been speaking for centuries. You perfectly demonstrated how difficult it is to interpret a simple and transparent idea, especially without the proper context. You formed opinions about my opinion and debated these opinions.

Incidentally, none of the "weird" interpreations I invented myself. These were different rabbinical responsa. Every single one of these rabbis was certain that his interpretation is clear and simple.

Two comments.

First, I love to lovingly pick at your English. Because it is excellent though not native. I use split infinitives myself without doubt (as you just saw). "Usage becomes grammar", as late W. Saf. used to say. I also am not a stickler for согласование времен. Who cares! What attracts me to your peculiar and unique and intricate sentence structure is something like nostalgia? Dunno!

Second, "You formed opinions about my opinion and debated these opinions." - this is a perfect summary of what all of us are doing here.

After this such analysis and the many interpretations suggested and motives scrutinized, I've completely lost the track of what I originally wanted to say and to what end. Now I have to see whose interpretation prevails.

You know, if the Torah has survived three thousand years of such penetrative analysis and still makes sense to some of us, it can't be anything else than Divine revelation...

I am an atheist - a quiet, little one, but a rather unshakeable case - however am also a Jew with some major allegiances including the Torah. So what if it does not make sense to me - maybe I am just stupid. Or maybe I am irked at the role the modern interpreters of the Torah leave for the women. Or maybe I am even more irked at a guitar-playing constructivist woman-rabbi in a talles and a kippah? Who knows.
