avvaНа прошлой неделе все (в Америке по крайней мере) сошли с ума на почве полного солнечного затмения на пару дней, и кроме него ни о чем не говорили и не писали.
Меня, если честно, эта тема никогда особенно не интересовала, и если бы затмение было где-то не очень далеко, не факт, что я за ним бы поехал. Но некоторые описания действительно понравились. Вот две цитаты, которые хочу отметить - не о самом моменте полного затмения ("totality"), а вокруг него скорее:
Из описания Эндрю Плоткина (широко известный в узких кругах гений жанра интерактивных текстовых игр):
"Zero is the wrong number of times to see a total eclipse in your life. [...]
Time to totality: sixty seconds. The world grew darker and darker, faster and faster. We watched the last sun-sliver vanish and then yanked off our filter specs.
It wasn't night, exactly. It certainly wasn't day. It wasn't anything like a partial eclipse, or the annular I saw in 1994. It wasn't anything like anything. It was a space outside the world for two and a half minutes.
We went home through the new world that came after."

"I had seen a partial eclipse in 1970. A partial eclipse is very interesting. It bears almost no relation to a total eclipse. Seeing a partial eclipse bears the same relation to seeing a total eclipse as kissing a man does to marrying him, or as flying in an airplane does to falling out of an airplane. Although the one experience precedes the other, it in no way prepares you for it."
(при этом само ее описание минут полного затмения мне показалось неубедительным: слишком цветистое, переборщила. Впрочем, что я знаю? - меня там не стояло)
