книги: Остер, стихи

avvaВ библиотеке вчера взял из любопытства сборник стихов Пола Остера (Paul Auster, Selected Poems, 1998). Не ожидал, что будет хорошо, и не оказалось хорошо. Остер, конечно, прозаик по призванию. Стихи -- в основном блеклый американский верлибр стандартной выпечки 70-х (сборник включает стихи за период 1970-1979 гг.).
Для примера выписал два стиха, которые показались значительно лучше других (т.е. всё равно не могу сказать, что хорошие стихи, но значительно лучше среднего уровня книги). Оба эти стиха относятся к периоду 1978-1979 гг. Вот они (под элжекатом).
1.
Simply to have stopped.
As if I could begin
Where my voice has stopped, myself
the sound of a word
I cannot speak.
So much silence
to be brought to life
in this pensive flesh, the beating
drum of words
within, so many words
lost in the wide world
within me, and thereby to have known
that in spite of myself
I am here.
As if this were the world.
2.
The infinite
tiny things. For once merely to breathe
in the light of the infinite
tiny things
that surround us. Or nothing
can escape
the lure of this darkness, the eye
will discover that we are
only what has made us less
than we are. To say nothing; To say:
our very lives
depend on it.
