avvaКарен Лерман в Слейт. Очередная попытка понять, как мы увязли в этом болоте - конечно, в рамках небольшой статьи места не хватает и всё упрощается, но получилось довольно интересно.

Its standard dismissal is: People have doubted the value of contemporary art since the beginning. And that's true. [...] But there are two major differences today. One, it's not just the bourgeoisie who's failing to grasp why anyone would pay $29,900 for Tom Friedman's Styrofoam cup with dead ladybug. It's also sophisticated, often liberal, "cultured" folk who enjoy edgy work in music, films, and theater and would like to do the same with art.
Нет, немножко глупо получается. Жалобно: не только, мол, глупая буржуазия не понимает современное искусство, но и мы, хорошие, либеральные, образованные, все такие белые и пушистые! Как же так?! Очень коряво сформулировано. Но мысль там внутри всё же есть, и мысль верная.
