это меня запутало окончательно, кстати.
они ж, вроде, и так уже Boehm GC используют.
так вот: он именно что аренами и пользуется, группируя аллокации по (округлённому) размеру.

Арены по размеру, конечно, помогают, но не очень сильно. Нужны арены, группирующие логически связанные объекты.

Если удастся уговорить народ возвратиться к handles a la MacOS 8 (?), то почему бы и нет? :) А без хэндлов компактирующий аллокатор действительно будет такое увы, что диву можно будет даться.

Чудеса науки. Странно только то, что полгода назад проблема была вроде как озвучена и проанализирована. Однако, тогда никто вроде ее существенной не счел. Картинки конечно вполне себе репрезентативные. Ну уж больно плохо они выглядят, неужели никто вообще не думал о фрагментации, когда это писали?
