Этот этюд наверняка будет знаком многим, но, возможно, не всем - и кому-то, надеюсь, понравится попробовать решить его для себя. В позиции ниже белые начинают и делают ничью. Комментарии скрывать не буду - если не знаете решения, очень советую попробовать самим, до того, как туда смотреть. Авторы - братья Сарычевы, 1928г.



Я вспомнил о нем, потому что размышлял опять о шахматных этюдах как искусстве, и подумал, что этот - один из самых простых и самых убедительных примеров. Этот этюд для меня лично не менее прекрасен, чем гениальное стихотворение, и более полезен для ума и опыта, чем большинство умнейших афоризмов.

After a few minutes, it dawned on me that there is nothing White can really do to prevent the Black Bishop from reaching c8 (1.Ke6 Kf4), and if that happens while the pawn is on b7, White is lost. So the key lies with forcing the pawn to move NOW, and then hoping for some kind of "acceleration" similar to one I recall from a similar étude from the 1920s (if memory serves). Therefore,

1.Kc8! b5 (Black dare not defend the pawn with the Bishop. 2... Be4 3.Kb8 and either the b-pawn dies or the c-pawn Queens.) 2.Kd7 and now:

2...Bf5+ 3.Kd6 b4 (or 2...b4 3.Kd6 Bf5) 4.Kd5! and if Black moves to defend the Bishop, 5.Ke4 steps into the b-pawn's "square"; if Black abandons the Bishop to push the b-pawn, both sides get Queens.

...I think.

Almost - you need 4. Ke5! and not Kd5 to threaten the bishop, otherwise black could just 4... b3. But I think that's what you meant.
