wherein we develop a linguistic turn
Apr. 1st, 2008 09:22 pmFrom this post on, this journal is English-only.
Sorry folks, and I know this must seem abrupt, but I've just had it up to here with the Russian blogosphere and all its histrionics. It's like one bad trip after another, with the deafening roar of "yandex top" dumbing down everything in sight. Drama queens, crazy people, flame wars about less than nothing - I can only take so much of this bullshit, and seven years seems as good a point to stop as any other. Seven years of this crap, I can't believe I made it that long. I've been struggling to write in Russian anyway, it doesn't come naturally to me. English is actually my native language - I grew up in Ukraine, but my folks come from Worcestershire and we've always spoken the Queen's English at home. It's a long story... like, take my last name, "Vorobey"? - that's just the best my dad could come up with in Russian that sounded anything like his ancestral name of Warraughby. My spoken Russian is just terrible - accent so thick even people who have known me for years have trouble understanding what I'm saying. So I've been thinking, you know, what's the point of all this pretending? And guess what, there isn't any. So I'm calling it quits.
Please comment in English, Russian comments will get deleted and their authors banned.
