Начиная с завтрашнего дня примерно:

1. Коды больше не нужны, аккаунт можно создать без них.
2. Существующие коды можно будет обменять на платное время в какой-то пропорции (ещё не решено, в какой, не очень большой), и дать это платное время (т.е. платный аккаунт на это время) себе или кому-то ещё.

Update: Я этого дня ждал больше двух лет... а теперь несколько страшно, честно говоря. Ну ничего, прорвёмся.

I think that was a silly, silly idea to get rid of invite codes. If you wanted more people to get into the action for free, just let free accounts generate a code a season or a quarter or a month.

The only thing that can seriously hinder spammers is a limitation on the ability of one (physical) person to quickly create and use multiple LJ accounts (virtual IDs). No band-aid solutions like Karma and such will work once a person can create unlimited # of accounts.

If I were a spammer and you let me post only when I have Karma of N, then I'll just create several "support" accounts and use them to "comment/post/fix" each other to beef up Karma of one "attack" account. I can write a script that will do this sort of thing automatically! If you need different email addressed, I'll run SMTP on my domain!

Do you guys REALLY want to keep running a sort of "Google dance" with LJ? In fact, even if you want, you cannot since it would be very unwise to keep changing the definition / value of Karma every so often. Some real people will inevitably get hurt by accident every time the definition of Karma changes.

I really do not see what you are gaining from this!
