Заместитель министра образования рав Перец Равиц заявил (сообщает сегодня "Маарив"), что надо отделить евреев от гоев в государственных школах. Слишком много там скопилось гоев, по его мнению, евреям угрожает ассимиляция. И вообще (цитата из его уст) "еврей должен учиться с евреями, а гой с гоями".

И что, кто-нибудь выступил против нашего доморощенного фашистика? Может быть, премьер-министр наш его теперь сместит с должности? Ох, очень сомневаюсь.

В очередной раз задумался о том, что придётся, возможно, на ближайших выборах за "Шинуй" голосовать.

Зато на выходных случилась смешная история: самолёт из Франции в Израиль совершил временную посадку в Афинах, чтоб заправиться и неисправность устранить. Большинство пассажиров отказались вернуться в самолёт и лететь в Израиль, т.к. присутствовавший среди них АДМО"Р (это почётное звание среди хасидских раввинов) заявил, что "во имя Божественного промысла" запрещено лететь на этом самолёте. В результате они застряли в Афинах на 14 часов, зато АДМО"Р со своей свитой улетел на частном самолёте. В конце концов им пришлось скинуться и заплатить $20,000 за специально зафрахтованный самолёт из Израиля.

Теперь они хотят подать в суд на авиакомпанию. Подать в суд на АДМО"Ра или, ещё лучше, на самих себя за глупость им почему-то в голову не приходит.

I totally aggree. I also like to be involved with "my kind" of people, without disrespect or discrimination against the others. I am inclined to live, work, study, and have fun with people who are more-or-less like me. There's nothing wrong with that, in my book.

Suppose you're an employer. Would you be more inclined to hire "your kind" of people than "other kind"?

I can't say. Every case is different. I guess it has to be a mix of someone who's compatible with my business (socially) and someone who's good professionally. Both count.

BTW - speaking of affiliation - Sometimes I can talk to an Arab and feel like he's one of "my people" (e.g. my lawyer, Akram Hasoona). Other times I can meet an Arab and have the urge to run for my life.

I don't know what "compatible with my business (socially) means".

Suppose you're in a business of writing software. You need to hire a programmer. You have two candidates, one is "your kind of people" and the other is the "other kind of people". Professionally they're on about the same level.

No, that's a different case. I guess I'll have to weigh in different factors, such as security clearance ("sivug bitkhoni"), previous army service, etc. I'm bound to find something that will help me decide between the two. Bottom line - I'll have to work harder to arrive at the decision, because I may be officially questioned later.

You see, that's exactly one of the problems new immigrants are facing (and endlessy complaining about it) - that it's hard to get a job, because employers prefer natives.

If the "non-native" person has better qualifications, he will prevail. It's a business decision now, and if he benefits my business, there's no question that he'll have the job.

Look, being "one of a kind" clearly is an advantage. A big fat "pro". Which means, that, if the "non-native" is just SLIGHTLY better, he probably will not get a job. I know numerous examples. It's life, not some business strategy game :)

As an employer...

As an employer, I never segregated on a racial or ethnic basis. On the contrary, I managed to create a "sub-culture" where Jews (both Israel-born and USSR-born), Arabs, a Copt (!) etc. felt at home with each other.

The reason was that all of them, in some way, shared a common spirit, hard to define with words. Well, easy to define, actually: they were all GOOD GUYS.

And that's how I envision the future: one nation of Good Guys under God.
