We see Europeans as a bunch of impractical philosophical extremists. In one generation it's OK to send a family to their death for sheltering a Jew; in the next generation you refuse to execute even the most heinious murderer. In one generation you declare that Europeans must be the masters of the world; in the next generation Europeans are unwilling to defend their own countries from a temporarily peaceful but inherently hostile 3rd world invasion. You go from colonizing other countries to forbidding your citizens from defending their own homes. You spent the 20th century debating debate whether communism or fascism is the answer; the only thing you all could agree on is that some alternative to America's ideas had to be found!

Sure thing. In one generation it's OK to round up your own citizens of a certain descent to detention camps (that is, if they are not currently serving in your military). In another, not too remote a generation it's a high time to declare yourself the most democratic and morally correct nation in the world. Actually, the only morally high nation in the world.

We are the best, the brightest, the kindest, the purest, the most honest, fair, and generous people in the whole stinkin wide world and we got the nukes to prove it to anybody who is so stupid as to question us.
