Забавная статья Dude, Where’s My Dude? о слове dude в американском английском, его сложной истории и современном статусе. Упоминаются такие культовые фильмы, как Big Lebowski и Dude, Where's My Car? (этого я не видел, впрочем).

Там в конце предложена забавная игра: пересказ содержания известных книг одним предложением по образцу Dude, Where's My Car?, например:

• Moby-Dick — Dude, Where’s My Whale?
  
• The Catcher in the Rye — Dude, Where’s My Innocence?
  
• The Sun Also Rises — Dude, Where’s My Dick?

и ещё. Кроме того, вот две записи в разных веблогах: одна, вторая, которые продолжают эту игру. Я тоже придумал несколько вариантов:

BTW, the proper feminine of Dude is dudette. I am surprized he didn't mention it.

"Dudette" is actually a rather specialised word. Not everyone who uses "dude" also uses "dudette". It's kind of a fancy version that many "dude" afficionados eschew as artificial and not dude-like. I suspect this is why he didn't mention it, and spent some space discussing application of "dude" to women instead.

I suspect that this word belongs to the original surfer culture of the 60's. Dude migrated into mainstream but left dudette behind. Indeed, it is an undudely term to use - too sophisticated.
