Неплохая статья в Обзервере о важности ясного и понятного языка в мире бизнеса и пресс-релизов (и наоборот, кому-то важно всё запутать и затемнить).

Особенно ужасный пример. Фирма Capita описывает, чем она занимается:

Using our experience in designing and managing back office and customer-facing business processes and our ability to harness the latest technol ogy, we are in a unique position to manage our client's direct contact with their customers. Using the most appropriate work-flow processes and communications technology, alongside a depth of business understanding, ensures our client's customer services are fully integrated with all their business operations.

Sure. What I actually meant is that the statements are loaded as input data into analytical models; and then they go with the finetoothed comb through the notes, because that's where all high-level legitimate accounting tricks are hidden.

Or maybe they just use their crystal ball.

surely, both.

a crystallball, tea leaves, shape of hawaiian waves and an elongation of clouds above a golf course are deservingly famous as sources of highly predictive financial models.

but, unless I'm grossly mistaken, an introductory statement by the chairman or CEO and the financial notes are two different beasts.
